Kontiki, Inc., the leading provider of enterprise video solutions, today announced at the Streaming Media West 2009 conference the successful launch of its Kontiki Enterprise Video Platform service enabling United Technologies Corp. (NYSE:UTX) to reach more than 100,000 employee PCs around the world.
UTC is one of the world’s largest manufacturing companies with such well-known business units as Pratt & Whitney aircraft engines, Sikorsky helicopters, Carrier heating and air conditioning systems, and Otis elevators and escalators, along with several other businesses. UTC is the 18th largest U.S. manufacturer, the 37th largest corporation and the 61st largest publically held manufacturer in the world.
A key driver for this initiative was the desire of senior executives to communicate the company’s vision to employees around the world using high-quality video messages. Prior to Kontiki deployment, use of high-quality video to communicate with UTC employees was difficult because of limited bandwidth to many small global locations.
UTC considered two architectural options to resolve this – a massive global hardware and bandwidth upgrade, or Kontiki’s software-based solution.
According to UTC Chief Information Officer John Doucette, “UTC’s global video delivery solution had to meet three key criteria: deliver high-quality video to all employee PCs globally, meet a fast deployment schedule measured in weeks not months, and require no incremental hardware or bandwidth upgrades. Kontiki fit our requirements and now UTC‘s business leaders can communicate to all employees in high-quality video, without negatively impacting our existing network traffic.”
Kontiki President Eric Armstrong says Kontiki is uniquely placed to deliver a solution to such a large company as United Technologies Corp., which does business worldwide and generates more than $50 billion in revenue each year.
“High-quality video as a means of communication is engaging, personal and has a bigger impact than traditional forms of corporate communication,” Armstrong said. “It’s difficult for CEOs to communicate a vision, and effectively lead employees with only email or voicemail in their communications toolset. Video is a critical component for effective leadership, and we are thrilled to be solving this problem for UTC.”
