MTS and Research In Motion to Offer BlackBerry in Russia

 

Moscow, Russia and Waterloo, Canada – May 4, 2005 – Mobile TeleSystems OJSC (“MTS” - NYSE: MBT), the largest mobile phone operator in Russia and the CIS and Research In Motion (RIM) (Nasdaq: RIMM; TSX: RIM) today announced plans to offer BlackBerry®, a leading wireless platform, to mobile customers in Russia.

 

BlackBerry is a popular and proven wireless solution for both individual and corporate customers.

 

BlackBerry will enable MTS subscribers to easily access e-mail, phone, text messaging, Internet, organizer and corporate data applications from a single, integrated device. By using BlackBerry to access corporate applications, MTS customers will be able to increase productivity and efficiency for individuals and workgroups.

 

For corporate customers, BlackBerry Enterprise Server tightly integrates with Microsoft® Exchange, IBM Lotus® Domino and Novell GroupWise enterprise systems to enable secure, push-based, wireless access to e-mail and other corporate data. For individuals and smaller businesses, BlackBerry Internet Service allows users to access up to ten corporate and/or personal email accounts (including Microsoft Exchange, IBM Lotus Domino and many popular ISP email accounts) from a single device.

 

BlackBerry is now available on wireless networks around the world with over 2.5 million subscribers using BlackBerry services today.

 

BlackBerry will operate on MTS’ GSM/GPRS network in Russia with international roaming supported in the countries where MTS has GPRS roaming agreements.
