The markets were flat today after a mixed open as ongoing concerns over the fiscal cliff kept stocks under pressure, despite some positive signs for the economy. The Commerce Department is reporting that the economy grew at a 3.1 percent annual rate in the third quarter, beating expectations for a reading of 2.8 percent.
