Here in Geneva this week the world’s most prestigious watchmakers gathered to show their latest marvels. They met on the edge of town in a hall called Palexpo, a main center where Richemont’s fine watch brands—think Jaeger-Le Coultre, A. Lange & Sohne, Piaget, Cartier, IWC, Gruebel-Forsey--arranged a labyrinth of meeting rooms and reception lobbies with a feeling of extravagance on par with some of the better hotels in New York City. (Some went for a rather more dramatic effect: The rooms at Roger Dubois were dominated by an enormous golden eagle suspended from the ceiling with a crystal sphere in his claw. A live bald eagle made an appearance as well.)
