Pizza Hut Becomes First Pizza Chain To Surpass 10 Million Facebook Fans
Milestone Honored with 14-foot tall "Like" Icon Constructed out of Pizza Boxes
DALLAS, Jan. 30, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Along with being the world's largest pizza company, Pizza Hut can now add another achievement to its portfolio: First pizza brand to surpass 10 million likes on Facebook.
The brand's Facebook page, facebook.com/pizzahut ,eclipsed the mark in five years, having launched the social media page in 2007. Pizza Hut also is a category frontrunner in followers on Twitter, subscribers on YouTube and is one of the most active brands on Instagram and Pinterest.
In celebration of the Facebook achievement, Pizza Hut has erected a one of a kind "monument" of massive proportions at its corporate headquarters in Plano, TX. The company constructed a 14-foot tall Facebook "Like" thumb icon made entirely out of the brand's famed pizza boxes. In all, more than 500 boxes were strategically placed atop one another to make a pixilated-looking Like thumb. The structure was even marveled at and approved by Facebook.

This mark is another notch in what will be one of the busiest weeks of the year for the pizza maker. Pizza Hut is gearing up for its busiest day of the year on Sunday, Feb. 3, in which the brand expects to sell more than 16 million slices of pizza, more than any other pizza chain. The company also will debut be a new commercial during the Big Game on Sunday, one that was crowd-sourced using fan contest videos uploaded to its Facebook page.
