US stocks start higher; Alcoa profit beats estimates

U.S. stocks opened higher on Wednesday, extending gains into a second session, after Alcoa's quarterly profit topped expectations and as investors looked to minutes from the Federal Reserve's last policy session. Shares of Alcoa gained after the aluminum producer projected demand for the metal would top output this year.
