Skyfence Provides Visibility and Control over Blind Spots Caused by Cloud Applications

Skyfence, the company that automates visibility and control over cloud apps, today announced a new version of the Skyfence Cloud Gateway that is designed to provide organizations with advanced capabilities to address the blind spot and security gaps created by the adoption of authorized and unauthorized cloud apps. Skyfence is architected to enable the safe and productive use of apps such as Salesforce.com, NetSuite, Office 365, Google Apps and others, by monitoring activity, assessing risk and protecting data in the cloud not addressed by traditional perimeter and endpoint controls.

“Skyfence helps us extend our existing security best practices to cloud apps. It gives us much needed visibility into what cloud applications our employees are using and the ability to monitor activity and unauthorized access,” said Juan Walker, Principal Security Strategist at EMF Broadcasting, which owns and operates more than 700 radio stations across the US. “We’re looking forward to the new 3.0 release, especially the ability to automatically identify managed and unmanaged mobile devices and enforce specific access policies based on whether a device is managed by IT or not.”

Introducing Skyfence Cloud Gateway 3.0

For most organizations, the move from on premise to Software as a Service (SaaS) applications can result in significant cost savings and increased flexibility. However, with the adoption of sanctioned and unsanctioned employee facing cloud apps, IT lacks the ability to know which are being used and by whom. Organizations are also unable to monitor user activity, assess risk and protect against account centric attacks that target their SaaS apps and data. In addition, many enterprises are deploying externally facing production applications for customers and partners, which are at risk from account takeover threats, including abuse of stolen credentials, brute force, and man-in-the middle attacks. Skyfence Cloud Gateway combines visibility across users, endpoints and applications with behavioral analytics and anomaly detection to protect against these threats.

New capabilities available in the Skyfence Cloud Gateway, version 3.0, include:

App Discovery, Usage and Risk– Allows IT and security administrators to easily import log files from leading perimeter security solutions such as Palo Alto Networks or Blue Coat to generate comprehensive reports that provide summarized and detailed views of apps, traffic, users and other usage metrics. Customers can also view summarized risk ratings and obtain detailed risk attributes for each app. In addition, multiple logs can be combined from distributed egress points to obtain an enterprise-wide view of SaaS usage and risks.

Comprehensive Endpoint and Security Controls - Customers can now define and enforce unique mobile access polices depending on whether the device is managed or unmanaged (BYOD) by IT. Custom or behavioral based policy can be used to dynamically block user access to an entire application or just specific actions within a given app. Users can also be challenged in real-time for step-up strong authentication based on specific actions or context, including anomalous behavior.

Infrastructure Integration Enhancements – Internet scale clustering and load balancing to deliver high availability, global policy rules for setting a single policy across multiple apps and enhanced integration with directory and SIEM platforms.

“‘Bring-your-own-cloud app’ usage has created a visibility and control gap for IT that cannot be addressed by traditional on-premise controls,” said Ofer Hendler, CEO of Skyfence. “Skyfence enables enterprises to see their cloud through automated discovery, know their cloud by providing analytics and risk assessment, and secure their cloud through threat detection and protection.”

Deployment, Availability and Pricing

The Skyfence Cloud Gateway can be deployed as an in-line proxy or in sniffer mode, and is available as a cloud service or an on-premise (physical or virtual) appliance. It does not require the installation of endpoint software. Skyfence Cloud Gateway 3.0 is available immediately from the company and its business partners worldwide. Annual subscription pricing is based on number of users. For more information on products and pricing email.
