Humana Ranked Among America's Greenest Companies In 2014 Newsweek Green Rankings

Humana Inc. (NYSE: HUM), one of the nation’s leading health and well-being companies, has been ranked among America’s greenest companies by Newsweek magazine for its corporate sustainability and environmental sustainability endeavors. Rising to No. 69 on Newsweek’s rankings, Humana was the highest ranked health insurer and No. 10 out of all health care companies on the 500-company list.

Humana recently highlighted results from its Healthy People, Healthy Planet, Healthy Performance Corporate Social Responsibility efforts in the company’s 2012-2013 Corporate Social Responsibility Report, including a breakout of the company’s latest environmental sustainability goals. By the end of 2015, Humana intends to:

  • Reduce annual energy consumption by 5 percent
  • Decrease greenhouse gas emissions by 5 percent
  • Increase landfill diversion to 40 percent of the waste stream

The Newsweek Green Rankings evaluate the 500 largest U.S. companies on their environmental performance. The 2014 ranking methodology includes indicators of energy, waste and carbon productivity, as well as reputational risk. From 2009 through 2013, Humana has climbed from an initial position of No. 392 to No. 69 in the latest rankings. It ranked 72nd in 2013.
