ASME Appoints Jeffrey Eisenman to Three Positions

PRLog - Jul. 15, 2014 - PALMETTO, Fla. -- The American Society of Mechanical Engineers has named Jeffrey D. Eisenman to three leadership positions. He will serve consecutive three-year terms on three separate committees related to industrial piping systems technology and standards.

The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) has appointed Jeffrey D. Eisenman, founder of Maverick Applied Science, Inc. to three-year terms on three related committees. He has accepted the positions as Chair of the Committee on Nonmetallic Pressure Piping Systems, Vice Chair of the Subcommittee on Glass Fiber-Reinforced Thermosetting Resin Piping and Ex-Officio Member of the Board on Pressure Technology Codes and Standards. His terms will run from July 2014 to June 2017.

Eisenman’s involvement with ASME goes back close to two decades. He has served on several committees and said he “…highly values ASME’s mission to serve diverse global communities by advancing, disseminating and applying engineering knowledge for improving the quality of life.”

He added that he particularly champions the organization’s long time goal of establishing and maintaining codes and standards for professional application in mechanical engineering. The organization has established over 600 technical standards for improving safety and efficiency of such varied applications as boilers, elevators, cranes, nuclear energy and pipelines. ASME’s technical standards are currently in effect in over 100 countries.

A professional engineer, Eisenman founded Maverick in 1999. The company is a globally recognized consulting, engineering, design, inspection and pipe support firm. It specializes in fiber glass reinforced process piping and equipment systems in abrasive and corrosive environments. Typically Maverick’s clients include chemical and mineral processing projects, power utilities, desalination and seawater management, and water/wastewater processing projects. It has clients throughout the US, Canada, Mexico, South America and the Middle East.

Speaking of the company’s high reputation across a horizontal market, Eisenman said “We have built Maverick on the principle that, by definition, in order to be better, you must be different. Our difference lies in our ability and willingness to take on challenges others cannot or will not.”

Going back to the early 1950’s, FRP has been slow to emerge as a preferred material for use in corrosive and abrasive environments. In fact, as recently as 1999, when Maverick was founded, FRP pipe and related products were still viewed with some skepticism. The problem was, not too many engineers really knew enough about fiber glass reinforced plastic to use it properly. That led to some unfortunate disappointments.

Maverick has made educating engineers about FRP part of its mission. By applying its expertise it strives to live up to its motto “We build confidence in FRP.”

As chair of The Committee on Nonmetallic Pressure Piping Systems, Eisenman will guide the development and maintenance of codes and standards for thermoplastic and glass-fiber-reinforced thermosetting resin piping systems suitable for pressure applications. As Vice Chair of The Sub-Committee on Glass Fiber-Reinforced Thermosetting Resin Piping he will help lead the establishment of rules relating to pressure integrity governing the construction of Glass Fiber-Reinforced Thermosetting Resin Piping Systems.

The Board on Pressure Technology Codes and Standards manages all ASME activities related to codes, standards, guidelines, and accreditation programs directly applicable to nonnuclear pressure containing equipment. By virtue of his other appointments, Eisenman will serve as an ex officio member.

About ASME

ASME helps the global engineering community develop solutions to real world challenges. Founded in 1880 as the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, ASME is a not-for-profit professional organization that enables collaboration, knowledge sharing and skill development across all engineering disciplines, while promoting the vital role of the engineer in society. ASME codes and standards, publications, conferences, continuing education and professional development programs provide a foundation for advancing technical knowledge and a safer world.

About Jeffrey D. Eisenman

A mechanical engineer with a couple of decades of experience, Jeff Eisenman cut his teeth in the world of FRP as a stress analyst, project engineer and project manager. His engineering and field capabilities for FRP and metallic materials include pipe stress analysis, finite element analysis, structural design, material specification, QC inspection (shop and field), construction and failure investigation.

Jeff is deeply involved in Maverick projects requiring design, inspection and installation of recycle and process piping, process storage tanks, stacks, chimney liners, FRP ductwork, pipe supports and supporting structures. Just as important, according to Jeff, is his role as business and integrity leader of Maverick. His strong belief in “do the right thing the right way” provides the moral compass that directs all Maverick enterprise.
