Ironmongery Online Backs Get Britain Building Campaign

A leading online supplier to the construction trade this week declared its support for the Get Britain Building campaign that aims to promote housing and infrastructure projects to bring economic growth and benefits throughout the UK.

Stourbridge, UK -- (SBWIRE) -- 07/23/2014 -- The Get Britain Building campaign claims to be the UK's biggest ever coalition of companies and organisations associated with the built environment. The campaign points out that the construction industry employs 3 million people and 28.5 new jobs are created for every £1million invested and that every £1 spent in construction generates £2.84 in economic activity. 92p of every £1 spent on construction is retained in the UK supporting the manufacturing and skill base we will need for the future. For every £1 of public investment in housing and construction, Government gets 56p back in the form of reduced benefits expenditure and increased tax income.

Housing remains a major issue in the UK. House prices in London rose by a record annual rate of 20% in May 2014 as overall growth in the UK climbed by 10.5% official figures revealed prompting experts to say the market in the capital has moved "from hot to hyper". Bank of England Governor Mark Carney has already made his concerns on price inflation public as some lenders have moved to tighten lending.

It is estimated that 200,000 new homes are needed each year but barely half of that number were built in 2013 at 109,000 completions.

Vicky Tomline, Head of Sales and Marketing at the West Midlands-based retailer Ironmongery Online said this week “It’s clear that the construction industry can help generate jobs, growth and home and we are proud to support the aims of the Get Britain Building Campaign.”
