PRLog - Jul. 31, 2014 - WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Throughout the US and Canada, United States Personal Chef Association (USPCA) personal chefs in a given area assemble and create a local chapter to help other chefs with community service, awareness campaigns and overall business development. Each of the chapters runs as a standalone organization with guidance from the USPCA. Websites, trade shows, community education programs and volunteer duties are all examined and evaluated to determine which chapter truly went above and beyond during the year. The Washington D.C. area Capital Chefs Chapter took home the Chapter of the Year award at this year’s USPCA national conference in Long Beach, California.

“The Capital Chefs Chapter of USPCA is a vibrant group of amazing chefs that mentor, encourage, and support each other,” said Chapter President Shirley Scrafford. “We are excited and grateful to be named Chapter of the Year. We will continue to strive to become a stronger, more effective tool for our members.”

Over the past year, the Capital Chefs Chapter have teamed up with Women Chefs and Restaurateurs for a cancer fundraiser, have raised over $5,000 for breast cancer research, and have volunteered with Cooking Matters and the Let’s Move programs including Chefs Move to School and Kids Eat Right. The Chapter also holds regular events for its members, including a cheese-making class on a farm, a brewery tour, recipe exchanges, and more.

Judges for this annual competition consisted of professional members within the USPCA. The award was presented at the USPCA’s National Personal Chef Conference in Long Beach, California, on July 19. The conference drew personal chefs from throughout North America and from as far away as Zimbabwe. More information about the Capital Chefs Chapter can be found at http://www.dcpersonalchefs.com.
