8 Inches of Hair, 8 Years of Hope: Pantene Beautiful Lengths Celebrates Its 8th Year with Nearly 400 Ponytails Donated

Procter & Gamble (NYSE:PG) and Pantene hosted its 4th ponytail donation event on Monday afternoon in support of the Beautiful Lengths program. Celebrating its 8th year anniversary, P&G employees, their family and friends, and the local community gathered in the Tower Gardens at the P&G General Offices and donated nearly 400 ponytails to benefit the Beautiful Lengths program, which, in partnership with the American Cancer Society and HairUWear, creates free real-hair wigs for women undergoing cancer treatments.

Three guests of honor spoke at the donation event, including Jenna Pilipovich, who shared her personal connection with the Beautiful Lengths program, well as American Cancer Society volunteer and cancer survivor, Mary Catherine Alley, who also shared a story about the transformative and healing power of hair and how a wig can help improve the life of a woman battling cancer. Hair styling was provided by more than 20 local hair stylists who volunteered their time to cut and style the hair that was donated. Walter Geiger, Vice President for North America Hair Care and Color at Procter & Gamble, was in attendance to support the program and provided the opening remarks.

“This truly wonderful program inspires people to grow, cut and donate their healthy hair to create free, real-hair wigs for women who have lost their hair due to cancer treatments. As one breast cancer survivor put it, 'It was very hard when my hair started falling out. It really takes away who you are when you look in the mirror.' Pantene Beautiful Lengths wigs help women who are battling the toughest fight of their lives, shine strong and feel more like themselves.”

The event kicked-off the countdown to the 3rd National Donate Your Hair Day, which is taking place in November 2014, benefiting the Pantene Beautiful Lengths program. This annual day of giving encourages people nationwide to cut and donate their hair to Beautiful Lengths.

Created in 2006, Pantene Beautiful Lengths inspires people to grow, cut and donate their healthy hair to create free, real-hair wigs for women who have lost their hair due to cancer treatments. To date, Pantene Beautiful Lengths has received nearly 600,000 hair donations from generous men, women, and children, and has provided the funds to turn these hair donations into free, real-hair wigs for women undergoing cancer treatment. The American Cancer Society distributes the wigs through its nationwide network of wig banks at no cost. Since the start of the program, 34,000 real-hair wigs have been provided to female cancer patients.

The requirements to donate hair to Pantene Beautiful Lengths are:

1. Each hair donation must be at least 8 inches long.

2. Hair may be colored with vegetable dyes, rinses and semi-permanent dyes. It cannot be bleached, permanently colored or chemically treated.

3. Gray hair is difficult to use in the wig-making process, so hair may not be more than 5% gray at the time of donation.
