Comcast Awards Nearly $200,000 in College Scholarships to Students across Florida

The Comcast Foundation has awarded $186,000 in college scholarships through the Comcast Leaders and Achievers® Scholarship Program to 174 high school seniors across Florida for the 2014-2015 school year.

The Comcast Leaders and Achievers® Scholarship Program provides $1,000 scholarships to students who strive to achieve their potential, who are catalysts for positive change in their communities, who are involved in their schools, and who serve as models for their fellow students. The philosophy behind the program is to give young people every opportunity to prepare for the future and to engage them in their communities. The program also demonstrates the importance of civic involvement, and the value placed on civic involvement by the business community.

In Florida, three exceptional students were selected to receive $5,000 Comcast Founders Scholarships:

  • Abigail Hulshult of Mandarin High School in Jacksonville
  • Haley Keane of South Plantation High School in Plantation
  • Jennifer Lear of Mariner High School in Cape Coral

“The Comcast Leaders and Achievers Scholarship Program is helping Florida’s best and brightest students pursue their dreams and aspirations through higher education,” said Pam Stewart, Commissioner for the Florida Department of Education. “I appreciate the company’s support as we begin this new school year.”

“These scholarship winners have demonstrated exemplary leadership skills in both the classroom and in their communities and have served as models for their fellow students,” said Derek Cooper, Comcast Florida Region Vice President of Government Affairs and Community Investment “We are proud to help support them as they continue on their educational journey.”
