Within 6 Months of Its Digitization, Turkcell Academy Reaches 1.3 Million Visits

In January 2014, Turkcell (NYSE:TKC) (BIST:TCELL), Turkey’s leading telecommunications and technology company, had re-launched its Academy as a digital and public learning platform with the goal of making global knowledge available to everyone through technology. At the end of its first six months, Turkcell Academy takes stock of its success: Tens of thousands of visitors from 143 countries used the service with more than 1.3 million visits. Visitors watched learning videos for 14 thousand hours in total, and over 3 million page views were recorded on Turkcell Academy website. 10 thousand users benefited from Turkcell Academy mobile application which was launched in May.

Global knowledge made available in Turkish

Through Turkcell Academy’s partnerships, visitors were able to reach global knowledge generated by world’s leading digital learning institutions such as Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Papagaei and Coursera. More than 140 thousand visitors completed Papagaei’s English courses at various levels, making English learning lessons one of the most popular categories of Turkcell Academy. With a partnership that was launched in early June, Turkcell Academy had made Coursera’s course offerings available with Turkish subtitles – in the limited amount of time since that launch, Turkcell Academy helped increase Turkish users’ access to Coursera by 25%.

Turkcell Academy also offers unique Turkcell content and supports national education in Turkey through local partnerships. Visitors can take preparation courses for high school, university and public service exams. In the first 6 months, “Preference Support Robot”, a digital guide that helps students with their university application decisions by evaluating their preparatory exam performance, proved to be one of the most popular services. More than 300 thousand candidates benefited from Turkcell Academy in their preparations for Turkey’s public service entrance exam.

Other popular videos were Smart Phone demos in English, MS Office trainings and Android setup.

“There was a real need for digital learning – and we met it in the best way possible”

“A short while ago, we digitized Turkcell Academy with the aim of letting millions have access to information. The level of interest from our audience proves that we have fulfilled a real need in the best way possible. In this 6-month period, we successfully expanded our local and international partnerships, and we continue to enrich our content on a daily basis. We are proud to help our people and especially 35-million Turkcell subscribers benefit from cutting-edge learning opportunities made possible through technology” said Banu İsci Sezen, Turkcell’s Chief Group Human Resources Officer.
