Saia, Inc. (NASDAQ: SAIA), an American transportation pioneer, marks its 90th anniversary today with the ringing of NASDAQ’s opening bell.
In 1924, Louis Saia, Sr. of Houma, La. removed the back seat of the family car and the first Saia truck was born. Today, Atlanta-based Saia, Inc. is a $1.1 billion powerhouse with 147 terminals in 34 states and some 8,500 employees. It is one of the nation’s top carriers, providing LTL, non-asset truckload and logistics services to a broad range of industries, including retail, chemical and manufacturing.

Since 2002, the year Saia, Inc. went public, its stock price has multiplied more than eight-fold and its revenue has increased by 49 percent. In addition, the number of employees has grown by 60 percent while its coverage area in the United States has expanded from 21 states to 34. Saia is currently the No. 1 performing public company in Georgia, where it is based.
With more than 3,000 trucks on the road, Saia has managed to post nine consecutive quarters of 98 percent on-time service. It has invested nearly $100 million in state-of-the art technology, training and business processes to enhance its ability to monitor and manage customer service, operations and profitability.
Saia LTL Freight has been recognized multiple times by the American Trucking Associations Safety Management Council with honors for its outstanding safety record and recognized by the American Chemistry Council Responsible Care Program as Carrier of the Year.
Saia’s offers service to the balance of North America, including Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Canada and Mexico, through partner carriers. It will mark its 90th anniversary with a series of events in New York City, Atlanta and Houma.
