Universal Devices Brings “Energy Management In a Box” to Small & Medium Business Customers

Encino, Calif,, US - - October 16, 2014

Universal Devices, a leader in energy management and automation devices, today announced the deployment of “Energy Management In a Box.” The new offering, the first low-cost system configured for the small and medium business (SMB) market, complies with California’s Title 24 building requirements and further extends demand response (DR) using OpenADR.

“This new offering integrates our powerful ISY994 automation platform with wireless thermostats to curb energy usage for small and medium business,” said Mike Ippolito, Chief Product Officer, Universal Devices. “This is the first product that allows business’ to take advantage of advanced energy management functions to monitor, manage, and automate their environment affordably.”

Distributed exclusively by HD Supply Power Solutions [NASDAQ: HDS] and through select contractors, the “Energy Management In a Box” product combines the powerful Universal Devices ISY994 Automation platform with up to 64 thermostats in an easy-to-configure solution. The powerful programmability of the ISY994 platform allows installers and building managers complete flexibility to define advanced “If-Then-Else” conditions using schedules, current and forecast weather, occupancy and room temperatures to manage a comfortable work environment. With easily integrated optional sensors, light controls, or other IoT devices, the business can securely manage all aspects of energy management with one simple interface from their computer or mobile device.

The “Commercial Advanced Thermostat Upgrade Program” necessitated this new energy management offering. The program is administered by Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E), which is regulated by the California Public Utilities Commission. PG&E contacts businesses during pre-defined peak periods to voluntarily shed electric loads using the OpenADR 2.0b specification for communication. Using advanced logic, the ISY994 platform allows the business owner to define rules to intelligently respond to these messages or simply opt-out at any thermostat. More information on this program is available on PG&E’s website at http://www.pgeadvancedthermostatupgrade.com/

“The combination of automation and demand response eligibility makes the ‘Energy Management In a Box’ the future of controls for air conditioning systems,” said Victor Valladares, president, Valley Mechanical.

Energy Management in a Box is available in a variety of kit combinations to meet the needs of utility partners worldwide.
