Hong Kong International Autumn Lighting Fair Ends on a Bright Note

Industry Professionals Positive on Business Prospects for Next Year

Hong Kong, Oct 30, 2014 - (ACN Newswire) - The 16th HKTDC Hong Kong International Lighting Fair (Autumn Edition), organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), drew to a close today with participants expressing optimism about the year ahead.

During the fair, the HKTDC commissioned an independent survey which interviewed 613 buyers and exhibitors about their views on market prospects for the year ahead. According to the preliminary results, over 90 per cent of buyers and exhibitors interviewed expect the overall sales to improve or remain about the same next year. The markets with the most promising growth prospects are the Chinese mainland, followed by Western Europe and the United States. The survey also found that the industry is bullish about the market for LED lighting products.

HKTDC Deputy Executive Director, Benjamin Chau, said: "The overall business atmosphere in the fairground was positive. Buyers have shown keen interest in environmentally-friendly, energy-saving lighting products and smart lighting solutions. The survey results also indicate that the industry players are optimistic about next year's sales."

Spotlight on LED

One of the latest trends in the lighting industry is the development of new LED products. The energy efficiency and affordability of LED products appeals to industry professionals around the world. Exhibitor Lee Wing-tak, CEO of MEGAMAN(R), said his company is committed to the continuous innovation of LED lighting products and solutions. At the fair, MEGAMAN showcased its new INGENIUM(R) Smart Lighting Solutions, which allow residential and commercial clients to control and adjust lighting with a smart device. "Buyers have shown great interest in our Smart Lighting Solutions after watching our live demonstrations," Mr Lee said. "Some of our existing distributors have even verbally confirmed their orders. Business atmosphere at the show has been very good. We saw a 20 per cent increase in buyer attendance at our booth."

Making its debut at the Lighting Fair, Hong Kong exhibitor Nanogrid Limited showcased its latest invention, Nanoleaf Bloom, which is the world's first light bulb that dims without the need for a dimmer switch. The company's Co-Founder, Christian Yan, said: "We specialise in the research and development, design and marketing of LED lighting products that feature high energy efficiency, good design and high quality. This is our first time exhibiting at the Lighting Fair, and we are keen to meet international distributors and wholesalers. We are glad to have met a lot of quality and professional buyers here, who have responded very positively to our products. We have decided to come back to the fair next year."

Tsinghua Tongfang Company from the Chinese mainland - which earlier this year acquired Taiwan's renowned lighting brand Neo-Neon - was exhibiting under its own name for the first time. Marketing Manager Emma Chien said the company joined the fair to highlight their latest LED and festive lighting products. She said the company received around 600 buyer enquiries during the first three days of the fair. She said Hong Kong's convenient central location in Asia had attracted international buyers to the fair.

Stamp of Approval

REWE Far East Limited, the German supermarket chain's Hong Kong buying office, attends both the autumn and spring editions of the Lighting Fair every year to source LED bulbs. The company's Division Manager of Electronics / Lighting, John Li, said three buyers from their headquarters had joined their Hong Kong buying team this year to source both products and new suppliers. He said the product quality and exhibitor attendance of Lighting Fair had been rising continuously.\

Qi Long, GE Lighting's Technology Program Manager in the Chinese mainland, said: "This is my first visit to the Hong Kong Lighting Fair. I have come to find OEM partners and component suppliers, and to collect market intelligence. So far I have already met around six potential OEM partners and over 10 potential component suppliers."

Ghanaian buyer Paul Amfo, Global Lighting Centre Ltd's General Manager (Sales, Marketing & Operations), said this was his second visit to the Lighting Fair. He said he was particularly interested in high-quality products and new LED lighting designs, adding that he was impressed by the fair during which he met many high-quality suppliers.

The four-day Lighting Fair welcomed nearly 37,000 buyers from 135 countries and regions. Although overall attendance is slightly lower compared to the previous year, buyer attendance from some individual countries and regions has grown, including from traditional markets such as Italy, the UK, and the US, and emerging markets including India, Mexico and Turkey.

High Season for HKTDC Fairs

In addition to the Hong Kong International Lighting Fair (Autumn Edition), the HKTDC is organising a number of exhibitions in October and November, including Hong Kong Optical Fair (5-7 November) and Hong Kong International Wine and Spirits Fair (6-8 November), held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre; and Eco Expo Asia (29 October - 1 November) and Hong Kong International Building and Hardware Fair (29 October - 1 November), being held at the AsiaWorld-Expo.
