Philanthropic firm volunteers with Habitat for Humanity of the Chesapeake Baltimore, Md. - November 11, 2014 - (iNewswire)
Baltimore City families will soon enjoy a revitalized neighborhood and a “hand up” to home ownership thanks to Habitat for Humanity of the Chesapeake and KBE Building Corp.
On Nov. 7, volunteers from the commercial construction management firm’s Mid-Atlantic regional office helped rebuild houses along a four-block stretch of McCabe Avenue, where 37 of 123 homes are vacant.

Building More than Just Houses
Habitat Chesapeake does more than just build houses. It also helps build communities by providing volunteer and educational opportunities focused on responsible home ownership.
Eligible families are those living on 25-60% of the area’s median income. To participate, they must contribute 150 hours of volunteer time to Habitat Chesapeake, complete the organization’s Homebuyer Academy, and make payments on a no-interest, 30-year mortgage set at 30% of their income.
It’s All Because of 50 Ways
KBE’s volunteer service with Habitat Chesapeake is part of the $300 million firm’s corporate philanthropic program, 50 Ways to Make a Difference.
Established in 2009 to celebrate KBE’s new ownership, name change, and 50 years in business, 50 Ways has helped KBE associates donate more than $1.2 million and 5,000 volunteer hours to charitable causes benefiting children, seniors, and military veterans in Connecticut and Maryland.
Earlier this year, personnel at KBE’s Maryland office participated in CanStruction, a local competition in which participants built structures from canned foods that were later donated to the Capital Area Food Bank. KBE will also continue its tradition of providing Thanksgiving meals to needy families through its Gift of Gobble program later this month.
