Sprint Appoints Respected Communications Leader to Join Management Team

Sprint (NYSE:S) announced today the appointment of Douglas Michelman to Sprint’s leadership team. Michelman brings significant experience and expertise to Sprint. Most recently, he spent 10 years as Chief Communications Officer at Visa, where he oversaw global media relations, public affairs, industry analyst relations and financial and communication strategies. Prior to Visa, Michelman served in various roles at FleishmanHillard, including regional president and senior partner. In addition to his many years of corporate experience, Michelman’s communications background also includes staff positions for two presidential campaigns.

“Doug brings world-class experience to Sprint,” Sprint CEO Marcelo Claure said. “I’m excited about Doug joining my leadership team and believe his background is a tremendous fit for Sprint’s journey to reshape the wireless industry. Simple, honest and transparent communication is an integral component in reshaping the wireless industry.”

While at Visa, Michelman guided communications for its IPO and led the development of the organization’s corporate values. He also established Visa’s corporate responsibility and philanthropy programs. Michelman’s career has taken him to several cities, including a four-year stint in Hong Kong, China.

Michelman replaces Bill White, Senior Vice President of Corporate Communications and Corporate Social Responsibility, who will be leaving the company. White spent the past 32 years with Sprint (and Sprint-acquired company Centel). “I thank Bill for his numerous contributions since he’s been with Sprint,” Claure said. “I wish him the best.”

Michelman joins Sprint on Monday, Dec. 1, 2014, and will be relocating to Overland Park, Kansas.
