For the eighth year in a row, Duracell’s ‘Powering Holiday Smiles’ campaign will donate a year’s supply of batteries to hospitals across Canada in order to power lifesaving medical devices and the thousands of playroom toys and games that children and their families will be using this holiday season and beyond. In addition, for every pack of Duracell Quantum and CopperTop batteries that Canadians purchase at Walmart from December 1st to December 31st, 2014, Duracell will donate 20 cents to Children’s Miracle Network, with the goal to raise $150,000. “I’m excited to join forces with Duracell and help these kids celebrate the holidays,” said Jonas. “I was diagnosed with Type I Diabetes when I was young and spent a few days in hospital. It was a life changing experience that motivated me to try and make a difference. I’m glad that I can be here to help support a great cause and power a few smiles along the way.”

As part of the Duracell Powering Holiday Smiles campaign, Jonas took time out of his busy schedule promoting his new, self-titled album to make an appearance at The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) in Toronto. “It was really powerful to visit with the families who benefit from this program. The kids were so excited as we handed out this year’s must have toys. It was a lot of fun!”

Hasbro, in partnership with Duracell, will donate toys, including favourites from the popular MY LITTLE PONY, BABY ALIVE and PLAYSKOOL brands, all powered by Duracell batteries, to participating Children’s Miracle Network member hospitals in Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Saskatoon, Winnipeg, London, Hamilton, Toronto, Ottawa, two in Montreal, Quebec City, Halifax and St. John’s.

"This is Duracell’s eighth year of proudly donating to children’s hospitals across Canada, and with the generous support of Nick Jonas, our friends at Hasbro, and caring Canadians everywhere, we are aiming to power as many smiles as we possibly can,” said Joyce Law, Senior Communications Manager, Duracell Canada. “Canadians can help by purchasing a pack of Duracell Quantum or CopperTop batteries at Walmart between December 1st and December 31st to help raise funds for Children’s Miracle Network.”

“We know that Canadians are extremely compassionate during the holidays,” said John Hartman, Chief Operating Officer at Children’s Miracle Network. “With the support of Canadians and partners like Duracell, we can provide the funding needed to ensure that vital programs, equipment and research devoted to children’s health continue to thrive.”

There is so much to do this time of year and details can easily get overlooked, but there’s nothing more disappointing than a child receiving a toy on Christmas morning and finding out it is powerless. Duracell suggests that families stock up on batteries of various sizes and cautions against removing the batteries from emergency devices such as smoke alarms and flashlights to use in gifts.

About Nick Jonas
Island Recording Artist, Nick Jonas announces himself as a brand-new musician on his newly released self-titled solo debut. Who Jonas is now is a 22 year old multi-talented artist stepping out on his own and re-inventing himself after achieving worldwide fame with The Jonas Brothers. The Grammy-nominated group sold 20 million albums and toured the globe several times over before calling it quits in October 2013. Its youngest member has lived a lot of life in those years and his experiences are reflected on his upcoming album due out on November 11 via Island Records. The album’s first single and radio hit, “Jealous”, penned by Jonas and co-written by with Nolan Lambroza and Simon Wilcox is currently the #1 most added song at Top 40 Radio. Jonas attributes the album’s darker overtones partially to the fact that while he was recording, he was also shooting the gritty television show Kingdom — a mixed martial arts family drama that premieres on DirecTV's Audience Network on October 8. Jonas plays an MMA prize fighter who holds his cards close to his chest. This September, Jonas embarked on a Club Tour in support of his album, and visited 12 cities across the United States and Canada including Houston, Dallas, Chicago, Boston, Los Angeles and New York.
