FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.—A new home is one of the most rewarding purchases a family can make. Home is where a family relaxes and unwinds. It’s where they meet around the dinner table. It’s where they feel safe, and so it’s only fitting that owning a new home is made possible for a veteran who has put his life in danger to protect our safety and has come home from the battlefield wounded. Together with HelpingAHero.org and Mountain Real Estate Capital, McKee Homes broke ground in their Legacy Lakes community in Aberdeen, N.C. (http://www.mckeehomesnc.com/region/pinehurst-aberdeen-southern-pines), on January 26 to build the new home for retired Sgt. Jonathan Rivenbark and his wife,Yulia.

The event was attended by Lt. Gov. Dan Forest, Aberdeen MayorRobert Farrell, and many active service personnel as well as representatives from Helping a Hero, Mountain Real Estate Capital and McKee Homes.

Having grown up in several foster homes in Eastern North Carolina, Rivenbark entered the Army in 2009 as an Airborne Infantryman stationed at Fort Bragg. He was deployed to Afghanistan twice, the second time during which he suffered debilitating injuries to his knees and legs. After rehabilitation at Walter ReedArmy Medical Center, Womack Army Medical Centerand Center for the Intrepid at Brooke Army Medical Center, Sgt. Rivenbarknow utilizes IDEO orthotic braces, crutches, a cane and a wheelchair for his daily mobility.

McKee Homes specializes in building new homes to suit their customers. For Sgt. Rivenbark, that includes special adaptations to help him live a more independent life.  “We believe in the power of doing right by our customers, employees, vendors and community,” said Pat McKee, President of McKee Homes.  Pat also said, “we were excited to partner with HelpingAHero.org and Mountain Real Estate Capital to build a home at cost for Sgt. Rivenbark to help make this dream a reality.”  Helping A Hero is a non-profit organization specializing in providing adapted homes for severely wounded veterans of the Global War on Terror.
