Think Spring! Go Out on a Limb and Get Your Free Tree from PECO

As the ground begins to thaw, PECO encourages customers to “Think Spring!” and reserve a free tree from the Energy-Saving Trees program. Through a partnership with the Arbor Day Foundation, PECO is providing more than 2,000 free trees to customers to help save energy and money.

When planted in the right place, trees can help reduce energy use through summer shading and slowing cold winter winds. Once trees are fully grown, they can lower energy bills by up to 15 to 30 percent. In addition, trees can increase property value, reduce carbon footprint, improve air quality and more effectively catch storm water runoff.

To reserve a free tree, customers can visit the Arbor Day Foundation’s easy-to-use, interactive online mapping tool at www.arborday.com/peco. The website also helps customers determine how to plant the right tree in the right place to save energy. Once customers confirm their reservation, a 3-foot tall, lightly branched tree seedling will be shipped to their home within two to four weeks from a local Arbor Day Foundation nursery.

Customers are reminded to dial 811 at least three days before digging to ensure the area is safe for planting. In 2014, customers received 1,000 trees from PECO. Trees again will be available to PECO customers on a first-come, first-served basis for planting in safe, energy-saving locations. One tree is available per customer.
