In the late '50s the Nashville sound hit the airwaves as producers replaced honky-tonk's fiddles and steel guitars with string sections and vocal choirs, launching a new golden age of country music. Some of the greatest country vocalists of all time – Patsy Cline, George Jones, Don Gibson, Jim Reeves, Marty Robbins, and more - pioneered this more polished, modern sound in the '50s and '60s, and influenced later artists, including Glen Campbell, Waylon Jennings, Kris Kristofferson, Dolly Parton, and Tammy Wynette.
