BGE Receives U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) 2015 ENERGY STAR® Partner of the Year Award

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has announced that Baltimore Gas and Electric Company (BGE) has been selected as a 2015 ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year. BGE, along with sister Exelon utilities ComEd, based in Chicago, and PECO, based in Philadelphia, will be honored for their long-term commitment to energy efficiency at the EPA awards ceremony in Washington, D.C. on April 20, 2015.

Since the inception of the BGE Smart Energy Savers Program in 2009, a suite of programs intended to help customers reduce energy usage, the company has received nine awards in total and now receives its fifth Partner of the Year Sustained Excellence Award for its continued leadership in protecting the environment through energy efficiency efforts. The company was commended for its continuous contributions to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by delivering information, services and products to BGE customers to increase energy efficiency.

“BGE is proud to be recognized by the U.S. EPA for the fifth year in a row and to accept this award on behalf of our customers, who have truly made the BGE Smart Energy Savers Program a success,” said Calvin G. Butler Jr., chief executive officer for BGE. “Working together with BGE, our customers have achieved significant milestones by strongly supporting BGE’s Smart Energy Savers Program with energy efficient actions and by taking advantage of rebates and other incentives intended to help them control and decrease their energy usage. Receiving the EPA award is a true testament to the diversity and strength of our energy efficiency program portfolio. We are pleased to accept this award and share it with the BGE employees who work tirelessly to design, implement and improve our programs and our customers.”

BGE’s Smart Energy Savers Program features a comprehensive portfolio of energy efficiency programs, intended to help customers reduce energy usage and demand in support of EmPOWER Maryland. BGE customers have achieved annual energy savings of more than 1.9 billion kilowatt hours (kWh); equivalent to the electricity use of more than 197,000 homes for one year, as a result of their participation in the BGE Smart Energy Savers Program® since its launch.

In addition to the EPA award, the success of BGE’s Smart Energy Savers Program has been recognized by energy industry leaders and other organizations. Some of the honors and awards include:
