AOL Welcomes More than 800 Children to Its ‘Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day’ Program

Building on its commitment to inspire the next generation of young leaders, AOL today will host more than 800 young people as part of its expanded ‘Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day’ program. In addition to children of AOLers, today’s program will welcome children from Big Brothers Big Sisters, to participate in an exciting day-long program at fourteen AOL locations around the U.S. and Canada.

Designed to be more than a career day, the Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work program exposes girls and boys to what a parent or mentor does during the work day. The impactful program, now in its twenty-second year, provides youth with hands on experience in an interactive environment, educating and empowering them with tools to reach their full potential. Activities for the day will include welcoming remarks from Tim Armstrong, CEO of AOL Inc., Sara Link, Head of Citizen AOL and President of the AOL Charitable Foundation, and Arianna Huffington, President, and Editor-In-Chief of the Huffington Post Media Group, as well as age specific activities for 7 different age groups that leverage its content brands and technology platforms, such as:

  • A child-moderated BUILD session with David Frei of the Westminster Dog Show and his therapy dog
  • Yoga and meditation classes led by AOL's offsite childcare provider Bright Horizons
  • MAKERS hosted women in tech workshop
  • Informative sessions on social media and viral content
  • AOL Engineer led coding class
  • Storytelling 101 with The Huffington Post

AOL’s program answers the call of the White House, which earlier this year, called on organizations to expand the Take Our Daughters And Sons To Work program to youth who are typically unable to participate in this day, including foster youth, youth who may be at higher risk of dropping out of school, or youth who may not have a parent with a job that allows them to bring their children to work. AOL’s program includes an entire day of activities today in support of the program’s nationwide #MPOWR theme.

Commenting on the program, Head of Citizen AOL and AOL Charitable Foundation President Sara Link said: “AOL is in the business of empowering innovators and unleashing builders, so we are very excited to be working with the White House as they expand the Take Our Daughters And Sons To Work program. This day is a great opportunity for AOL to inspire and educate the leaders of tomorrow and we are thrilled to be taking part.”
