Silver Spring Networks Wins 2015 IoT Evolution Product of the Year Award

Today at the Internet of Things World conference, the world’s largest and most comprehensive IoT event, Silver Spring Networks (NYSE:SSNI) announced that the Silver Spring Gen5 / “Milli 5” networking platform has been recognized with the 2015 IoT Evolution Product of the Year Award from TMC and Crossfire Media. “Milli 5” is a postage-stamp sized communications module that sensor manufacturers can embed in their devices to provide economic, battery-powered connectivity and edge intelligence for a new class of IoT applications.

“We are at the intersection of several complementary and coinciding forces – ubiquitous secure connectivity, increasing device capability, and powerful analytics. This tectonic collision is bringing billions of never-before connected devices online, and unlocking real-time data streams, edge intelligence, and new applications that could profoundly change the world in which we live,” said Raj Vaswani, Chief Technology Officer, Silver Spring Networks. “Based on our fifth-generation networking platform, ‘Milli 5’ enables our customers and partners the opportunity to not only participate readily in this disruption, but to drive its development and profit more rapidly from its outcomes.”

“It is my pleasure to recognize Gen5 / ‘Milli 5’, an innovative solution that earned Silver Spring Networks the 2015 IoT Evolution Product of the Year Award,” said Rich Tehrani, CEO, TMC. “I look forward to seeing more innovation from Silver Spring Networks in the future.”

Silver Spring’s “Milli 5” can enable future IoT applications such as smart gas and water metering, waste management sensors, smart parking monitors, pollution and emissions sensors, logistics and transportation tracking, industrial equipment monitoring, and smart agriculture sensors, among many others. “Milli 5” is built to create a self-meshing network and to reliably operate for up to 20 years in the field, without sacrificing the multi-layer security, standards compliance, and IPv6 addressing required by sophisticated IoT operators.

The Silver Spring “Milli 5” is part of Silver Spring’s fifth generation critical infrastructure networking platform, Gen5, which includes major advancements in speed, latency, range, distributed intelligence, power optimization, and size. Silver Spring’s critical infrastructure networking platform has connected more than 20.5 million devices for the world’s leading network operators, such as energy providers, cities, and public lighting operators, on five continents.

Silver Spring will showcase its proven networking platform and vision for smart energy, smart cities, and the IoT at the Internet of Things World conference on May 12 at 12.05pm PDT during the “What is driving investment in Smart Cities and what does the investment climate look like?” panel.
