Local Calgary Tattoo Shop Gives Behind the Scenes Look at Tattooing

Calgary-CA—Tattooing has always been an art form that goes in and out of style with popular culture, but maintains a hardcore base of enthusiasts who see body art as art and as a way of defining themselves through their vision of body modification. With the rise in popularity of reality television competitive series, Inkmasters, more people are beginning to understand both the artistry and the difficulty of tattooing as a profession. Recently, Joker's Tattoo has received a great deal of questions about their shop and the art of body modification, and wanted to offer up an inside look on tattooing and what it takes to be a quality tattoo artist.

“Obviously, tattooing is a passion for me,” says Arnold. “I've spent years of my life devoted to this art form, not only to provide people with the modifications that they desire, but also to developing and understanding among 'normals' that this really is an art form that those of us within the industry take seriously. Skin is not an easy medium to work with, because it moves and because every skin type absorbs the ink differently. When someone creates art on a human canvas with all its contours and difficulties they've done something really amazing.”

Joker's Tattoo has a Frequently Asked Questions Page which explains things like the cost of tattooing, why consultations are important, and other regulatory facts like age requirements. The goal of providing these types of answers is both to de-mystify the process, but also to show that it is a business like any other that maintains standards of quality and health integrity.

“All of us put up our portfolios on the site so that potential customers can see not just what we're capable of as artists, but what style each of us prefers when tattooing,” says Arnold. “There are artists who specialise in 'American Traditional,' Japanese, color, realistic, tribal—everyone has their own style preference, and as they do it over and over they get better at it. If someone comes to me with an style that I know my partner here does better than me, I'll tell them that because the important part is having someone walk out of Joker's with the tattoo that they really want, executed as perfectly as our shop possibly can.”

Joker's Tattoo and Body FX wants to provide answers to anyone's questions regarding tattooing, and encourages people to call or email the shop if they cannot find the answers on their FAQ page.
