Salix Pharmaceuticals Ltd. (Nasdaq: SLXP) will pay a premium of approximately $2.6 billion in cash to acquire Santarus Inc. (Nasdaq: SNTS). Shares of Santarus leaped $8.79 to $32.01 while Salix stock surged $11.75 to $83.06.
