NEW YORK - Oct. 6, 2015 - PRLog -- On Saturday, October 24, 2015 the Randall’s Island Park Alliance (RIPA), in partnership with Riverkeeper, will host the 6th annual Run the River 5K to benefit and raise awareness of efforts to protect, maintain and restore the beautiful shorelines and wetlands at Randall’s Island Park. “We are excited to partner with Randall’s Island Park Alliance in supporting the Island’s wetlands, which provide a critical habitat for the birds and other wildlife that live along the river. We truly hope that all will come out and support this important cause,” said Paul Gallay, Riverkeeper President and Hudson Riverkeeper.

The certified race course begins and ends in iconic Icahn Stadium and takes runners along the Island’s waterfront pathways. “This fun event is a wonderful way to get to know Randall’s Island. It allows people to support much needed green space within NYC and it also promotes fitness and healthy living,” said Aimee Boden, RIPA President. In addition to the 5K race, the event will include a Children’s Fun Run at the Stadium and a Post-Race Party with music, light refreshments, Greenport Harbor Brewing Company’s signature beer, and an awards ceremony. "We are proud to be a sponsor of this event and to support the continued efforts of RIPA to improve the Island for New Yorkers and all the wildlife that live here. Randall's Island has been our home for five years now, and the Park gets better and better every year through events like this," says Tom Russell of Founders Entertainment, the producers of The Governors Ball Festival. Race participants and their friends and families will also have the opportunity to attend RIPA’s free Harvest Festival from 12 pm – 4 pm. There will be fun activities including face painting, kite flying, live music by J.D. Patch, indigo art dyeing by Textile Art Center and more.
