Centennial, CO - November 3, 2015 - (Newswire.com)

NexusTek, a leading Denver-based managed IT services and business software consulting services firm, announced today the names of the BBB/NexusTek Tech Scholarship winners. Miguel Gonzalez was chosen as the Grand Prize recipient – a $10,000 scholarship and Juno Padilla was awarded the $5,000 scholarship. Both students are seniors at Arrupe Jesuit High School, Denver, Colorado.

NexusTek Tech Scholarship candidates are students in financial need that are seeking a degree in science, technology, and engineering. Last year’s $10,000 Student of Integrity Technology Education Scholarship award went to Walker Sanchez. Now in his first year as an engineering student at CU Boulder, Walker is excited to one day leverage his degree in the fast-growing field of technology.

NexusTek and the Better Business Bureau Foundation offered one Grand Prize college scholarship of $10,000. With NexusTek matching donations, the fundraising efforts resulted in an outpouring of like-minded support from tech leaders across Colorado who understand what this campaign means to the kids and their industry. The campaign involvement resulted in an additional $5,000 award for a second deserving candidate.

“Miguel Gonzalez and Juno Padilla exemplify high-level student achievement in the face of adversity,” said Mike Jenner, CEO of NexusTek. “Their high school attitude and accomplishments, focused on work, education and community involvement, were the reason they stood out from the crowd in the application process. Their stories are indicative of leadership, a sense of community and even a mindset of mentoring – they are amazing young people and we are thrilled to support them.”

The scholarship applicants submit a comprehensive application and finalists undergo a stringent interview process from members of the selection committee, led by BBB Foundation Board Member Lisa McAlister, Principal at With Good Cause, Inc. and former BBB Foundation Board Member, Soraya Cartwright, CEO, Life’s Sweet, Inc.

Each student will be honored and formally presented with their scholarships at the 13th Annual BBB Torch Awards for Marketplace Trust ceremony on Thursday, November 5, 2015 at Wings Over the Rockies Air & Space Museum.
