IMDb Announces the Top 10 Stars and Top 10 Breakout Stars of 2015 as Determined by Page Views

IMDb (www.imdb.com), the #1 movie website in the world, today unveiled the Top 10 Stars and Top 10 Breakout Stars of 2015. Rather than base its annual rankings on small statistical samplings, reviews of professional critics or box office performance, IMDb’s definitive top 10 lists are determined by the actual page views of the more than 250 million monthly unique visitors to IMDb.

IMDb’s just-launched Best of 2015 special section features a variety of additional year-end top 10 lists, retrospective photo galleries, an in memoriam and other original videos and additional compelling year-end coverage. *Among the select group of stars who charted on IMDb’s annual Top 100 list for the first time in their careers in 2015, these 10 stars consistently ranked the highest on the IMDb weekly STARmeter chart throughout the year. “In Mad Max: Fury Road Tom Hardy is surrounded by strong female characters ‒ which is fitting,” said Keith Simanton, IMDb’s Senior Film Editor. “While Tom Hardy is IMDb’s #1 star of 2015, he is also the only male actor to crack IMDb’s otherwise all-female Top 10 Stars of 2015 and 2014 lists. Similarly, Scott Eastwood is the only male actor to chart on the IMDb Top 10 Breakout Stars of 2015 list, coming in at #10.”

“Bryce Dallas Howard (Jurassic World) and Lily James (Cinderella, Downton Abbey) also had a very strong year in 2015, as evidenced by the fact that they charted for the very first time on both the IMDb Top 10 Stars List and the IMDb Top 10 Breakout Stars list simultaneously, which means that not only did they crack IMDb’s Top 100 list for the first time in their careers in 2015, but they also were in rarified air in that they were among the top 10 most viewed stars on IMDb in 2015, as determined by page views,” said Simanton.

“Interestingly, superstar and fan favorite Jennifer Lawrence, who was ranked #2 on the IMDb Top 10 Stars of 2014 list, #1 in 2013, #2 in 2012 and #7 in 2011 did not rank on the IMDb Top 10 Stars list this year, coming in at #18 in 2015. Given that Jennifer is currently starring in the final installment of The Hunger Games franchise and is re-teaming with Bradley Cooper and David O. Russell in Joy this holiday season, I expect she’ll have a very strong showing when we compile our 2016 year-end lists,” said Simanton.
