DeGeneres was chosen as this year’s honoree in recognition of her tireless efforts to help communities in need and bring awareness to organizations and charities that are making a difference in people’s lives. As the recipient of the Favorite Humanitarian Award, DeGeneres has selected St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital as the beneficiary of the annual donation presented by Walgreens. Treatments invented at St. Jude have helped push the overall childhood cancer survival rate from 20 percent to more than 80 percent since it opened more than 50 years ago.
