HOMEWOOD, Ill. - Feb. 10, 2016 - PRLog -- American Idol star Chris Medina launched a GoFundMe campaign and is working with Homewood Chevrolet to raise money to purchase cars for all of the finalists of the recent Homewood Chevy Cares contest. Medina was influential in helping the Ferralez family win a new Chevy Sonic in the Homewood Chevy Cares contest, but he soon realized that each of the finalists had a very desperate need for a new car.

“I felt compelled; I wanted to help. So I reached out to my very loyal fan-base (the 203,800 followers on his Facebook), and they won. But the victory was bittersweet; I didn't realize how awful it would feel that these other finalists would go without a car. So I started a GoFundMe page to try to help,” Medina said.

     - Johnathan Olesen is a single father of three in need of a car to get back on his feet and secure a new job.

     - Janice Smith gives and gives to her community, and her daughter knows she could do more with a new set of wheels.

     - Michelle H is a college student studying secondary education who created the Community Closet charity to feed and clothe people in need. Her charity's reach would expand with a new car.

     - Caitlin F is a college student and mother who can only work one day a week and needs help taking her son to the doctor without a car.

“There are so many people that need so much and so many people that don't want to do enough; when someone of Medina's status takes the time to care, how can we not care?” said Steve Phillipos, owner of Homewood Chevrolet. The dealership kicked off donations with $2,000 toward the cause.

Medina is looking to raise $40,000 toward the purchase of vehicles for the other finalists. Rather than ask for big donations, he's asking people to give what they can, telling followers that if just a thousand of them donate $10 they will be a quarter of the way toward their goal. If the goal minimum is reached, Chevy of Homewood has promised to ensure each of the four families receives a car.
