U.S. Court of Appeals Rules in Favor of Silver Spring Networks Against EON Corp. IP Holdings, LLC

Silver Spring Networks, Inc. (NYSE: SSNI) today announced that the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit ruled in favor of Silver Spring Networks, reversing a judgment from the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas regarding patent claims covering wireless communication that had awarded approximately $13.0 million plus pre-judgment interest to EON Corp. IP Holdings, LLC.

Silver Spring’s appeal to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit successfully challenged the District Court’s failure to construe certain claims and, further, the appellate court stated that no reasonable jury could have found infringement given a proper claim construction.

“We are very pleased with the U.S. Court of Appeals decision,” said Rick Arnold, General Counsel, Silver Spring Networks. “We are proud of our innovation and will continue to vigorously defend Silver Spring and our customers.”

While EON has a few procedural options to contest today’s ruling, Silver Spring believes this ruling will be maintained.

Silver Spring’s appellate team was led by Mark Lemley of Durie Tangri LLP.
