“We have a culture of giving that starts with our passionate and engaged employees,” said Marlene Ibsen, Vice President of Community Relations at Travelers and CEO and President of the Travelers Foundation. “We are proud to have made a meaningful difference in so many lives and neighborhoods across the United States through our corporate funding and the generosity of our employees.”

Highlights from the Travelers 2015 Community Connections Report include:

  • The company’s signature education program, Travelers EDGE® (Empowering Dreams for Graduation and Employment), provided 124 scholars with direct financial support, bringing the total number of scholars to 394 since the program began in 2007.
  • The Small Business Risk Education Program, which helps women and minority small-business owners learn about risk management and qualify for microloans, reached 221 participants. Program partners provided participants with more than $450,000 in small-business loans and microloans.
  • Working with Habitat for Humanity®, employees provided more than 5,000 volunteer hours to build homes in 22 states, including eight FORTIFIED homes, which are designed to better withstand storms in coastal regions of the country.

One of the employees featured in the report, Melissa Rodriguez, a Business Analyst, was a participant in Travelers EDGE during college. Now, she volunteers as a mentor to current scholars in the program.

“Giving back is something that has always been important to me,” said Rodriguez. “After completing Travelers EDGE, I wanted to give back and stay connected to the program. That’s when I decided to be a Travelers EDGE mentor. As a mentor I am able to help students who went through situations similar to mine and provide them with support and guidance, and make them feel that they can achieve anything they put their minds to.”
