Congressman Marc Veasey Flies F-35 Cockpit Demonstrator During Visit to Triumph in Arlington

Congressman Marc Veasey (TX-33) today joined employees, local elected officials and community leaders at the Triumph Group, Inc. (NYSE:TGI) Aerospace Structures facility to receive an update on the Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) F-35 Lightning II program and hear about the program’s economic benefits to Texas and the U.S.

During his visit, Veasey "flew" the F-35 cockpit demonstrator to experience firsthand how advanced stealth, fighter agility and integrated information systems make the F-35 the most capable multi-role fighter in the world. The cockpit is visually and audibly interactive and provides a realistic look at the F-35’s performance, air-to-air and air-to-ground capabilities, sophisticated sensor fusion and advanced computational capabilities.

“I am proud of my strong record of support for the F-35 program and will continue to work to ensure that our men and women in combat have the capabilities they need to carry out their critically important missions,” Veasey said. “Not only does the F-35 play an important role in protecting national security, its production here in North Texas brings thousands of good paying jobs to our region.”

Triumph Group, Inc., currently provides a number of structural components and systems on the F-35, such as hydraulic valves, the drag chute actuator (for Norwegian F-35s) and the holdback bar for the F-35C. Last month, Lockheed Martin awarded Triumph’s Precision Components business a contract to provide engine mounts, bulkheads, longerons and wing ribs for the F-35 through 2021, marking a growing relationship between the two companies.

"Triumph is proud to host the F-35 cockpit demonstrator and Congressman Veasey in Arlington,” said Rick Rosenjack, executive vice president, Precision Components. "We have a long history of serving the military aircraft market, especially here in Texas. This is a great opportunity for our employees to meet with an elected official who cares deeply about this program and also see how our products play a key role in helping today’s top fighter jet."

The development of the F-35 represents more than a decade of investment that will yield huge returns for the Lone Star State in terms of security, commerce and job creation.

“There are nearly 40,000 direct and indirect jobs tied to the F-35 program in Texas, and we are pleased to demonstrate how employees at Triumph, are contributing to the F-35’s progress today,” said Eric Van Camp, director of F-35 Business Development for Lockheed Martin. “We’re also excited to showcase the superior performance capabilities of this aircraft to the Triumph workforce, Congressman Veasey and North Texas community leaders.”

The F-35 program supports a broad industrial base of more than 1,250 suppliers in 45 states and Puerto Rico, contributing to more than 146,000 direct and indirect U.S. jobs and over $24 billion in annual economic impact. In Texas, the F-35 program generates more than $3.4 billion annually for the state’s economy. There are 78 supplier locations in Texas supporting the program, providing 38,900 direct and indirect jobs.

The F-35 will replace a wide range of aging fighter and strike aircraft. Three variants derived from a common design will ensure the F-35 provides air superiority well into the future while remaining affordable for our nation.

Lockheed Martin is developing the F-35 in conjunction with its principal partners, Northrop Grumman [NYSE: NOC], BAE Systems, and Pratt & Whitney. Among the aircraft F-35 will replace are the A-10, AV-8B Harrier, F-16, F/A-18, and the United Kingdom’s Harrier GR-7 and Sea Harrier.
