Higher close as crude oil climbs

Crude oil prices climbed to lift the markets to a higher close with the Dow gaining 54 points to 18,923. Nasdaq soared 57 points to 5,275.


On the upside


Shares of Diana Containerships (Nasdaq: DCIX) and DryShips (Nasdaq: DRYS) soared as shipping capacity demand surged.


Sino-Global Shipping (Nasdaq: SINO) reported sharply higher first quarter earnings.


Rising crude oil prices lifted shares of California Resources (NYSE: CRC).


On the downside


Tesaro (Nasdaq: TSRO) priced its public offering of 1.75 million common shares at the discounted price of $135.00 per share.


TTM Technologies (Nasdaq: TTMI) announced a public secondary offering of 12 million common shares by its largest shareholder Su Sih.


Third quarter earnings slipped for Alarm.com (Nasdaq: ALRM).


In the broad market, advancing issues outpaced decliners by a margin of more than 5 to 2 on the NYSE and by more than 7 to 5 on Nasdaq. The broader S&P 500 soared 16 points to 2,180. Bitcoin climbed $6 to $709.
