The AXA Cyber Security Conference: It’s All About the Data

AXA, a leading financial protection company, held its first cybersecurity conference in New York City on October 20, 2016.

The all-day conference, which took place during National Cyber Security Awareness month, brought together leading cyber security talent from a variety of companies and included an executive discussion on the importance of information security at the C-suite and Board levels for large multinational companies with Mark Pearson, Chairman and CEO of AXA US and Mary Prabha Ng, Chief Information Security Officer, AXA US.

“Cyber security is something we take very seriously at AXA, and we recognize the importance of having a global strategy in place to deal with potential threats,” said Mark Pearson. “It is crucial for organizations to be constantly thinking about how to build digital resilience, and this conference creates a valuable information forum for experts to share their guidance and best practices.”

“Much too often, cyber security can get lost in technical jargon,” said Mary Prabha Ng. “Ultimately, it is the people that keep our environment secure- they are our first line of defense.”

Panelists spoke to a wide array of issues, including cyber protection frameworks in the United States, exploring the ways in which an organization should seek to protect itself and its customers from a security breach internally and while working with third-parties. International considerations were also addressed, with Lisa Sotto, Esq. (Hunton & Williams) noting that “data is like water – not constrained by country boundaries, and flowing in every open spot -- we must account for that global nature.”

Speakers repeatedly highlighted the importance of creating and improving a cyber-response plan in the panel titled “A Security Breach: Now What,” which explored significant aspects of breach response and what must be considered when filing a cyber-insurance claim with an insurer. The conference closed with a panel discussion focusing on the cyber security litigation and regulatory landscape.

We invite you to watch the conference highlight video for additional insight and to hear from many of the panelists and speakers.
