Alabama Encourages Citizens to Register to Vote

Alabama encourages all eligible citizens to register to vote online with the newly released Online Voter Registration application as a part of National Voter Registration Month, an initiative by the National Association of Secretaries of State (NASS). The Voter Registration application allows citizens to submit a new voter registration or update their current registration anytime, anywhere from their computers, tablets, or mobile devices.

“One of the most important ways that citizens can interact with government is through voting,” said Secretary of State John H. Merrill. “We’re proud to be able to make the process of registering more efficient and convenient for our voters.”

First time registrants will be prompted to enter their name, birthdate, and driver’s license number for the state to retrieve the user’s information. For citizens who are already registered, the Voter Registration application makes it easy to update their name and address. All information is securely processed and reviewed by the state.

The Voter Registration application was built at no charge to the state of Alabama in collaboration with Alabama Interactive, and has been widely adopted with more than 7,650 users registered already. The National Association of Secretaries of State named September as National Voter Registration Month with the intent to encourage voter participation and increase awareness of state requirements and deadlines for voting.
