Keystone Symposia Convenes Virtual ePanel on Drug Discovery on April 26, 2018

By: PRLog
SUMMIT COUNTY, Colo. - April 16, 2018 - PRLog -- Keystone Symposia is pleased to announce that it will host a free ePanel discussion on the topic of "Drug Discovery: Current Trends in Medicinal Chemistry" on April 26, 2018 at 2:30 PM ET. The 90-minute event will be broadcast globally and will include a 30-minute audience Q&A session following a panel discussion. The event is open to anyone via prior registration at http://bit.ly/VKSdrugdisc. Participants can submit a question for the panel when they register or during the event broadcast via the chat room or Twitter (hashtag: #VKSdrugdisc).

The panel will be moderated by Walter H. Moos, Ph.D., CEO of ShangPharma Innovation and an adjunct professor at the University of California, San Francisco. Panelists consist of Gina Xiaojing Wang, Ph.D., of Genentech, Inc.; Dimitry O. Koltun, Ph.D., senior scientist in the department of medicinal chemistry, Gilead Sciences, Inc.; Chudi Ndubaku, Ph.D., associate director of chemistry at Aduro Biotech. Joining for the Q&A will be Eric B. Harstad, Ph.D., head of non-clinical safety assessment atTheravance Biopharma. All have had long careers in drug development and are intimately familiar with the challenges and pitfalls of multiple drug discovery paradigms.

Drawing on the panelists' deep expertise in the pharmaceutical and biotech space, the discussion will explore topics such as the pros and cons of different lead-finding technologies, the current range of potential therapeutic chemotypes, and outsourcing to CROs. According to Dr. Moos, "The valley of death is moving earlier and earlier in the drug discovery and development cycle — and as a result, promising therapeutic innovations are dying on the vine. It is imperative to find more cost-effective and efficient discovery approaches to hone in on the most promising drug targets."

About Virtual Keystone Symposia

Keystone Symposia's new "Virtual Keystone Symposia" format is a means to hold short symposia and panel discussions on timely topics that can benefit from an accelerated production schedule. The format also serves as a way to share the scientific insights gained with a more extensive global audience than those who can attend face-to-face conferences. To date since this new programming model was launched about four years ago, more than 6,000 people have participated in Virtual Keystone Symposia events, which have been held on diverse topics including neuroscience, genome editing, noncoding RNAs, malaria, multiple sclerosis, neuroinflammation, reproducibility in science, diversity in science and tech transfer. All events are available to view in archived form at http://virtual.keystonesymposia.org. In addition to virtual events, this site also houses a number of scientific video talks, many of which were filmed at various Keystone Symposia conferences.
