Cold pressed juicing made easier than ever

Hydraulic cold presses and automatic citrus juicers are launching juice bars to the next level.
PRLog - May 11, 2015 - MIAMI -- Not from concentrate, no additives, no processing – cold pressed juice is the purest, rawest and most efficient way to obtain micronutrients ever lacking in our diets.  Juice bars offering our bodies a detoxifying break with energizing juice cleanses have captivated health-conscious consumers across the country.  But how do they do it? How do they get the juice out of the carrot, kale or almond?

In a nutshell, there are really only two ways that this can happen: centrifugal juicing or cold press juicing.

The way that all juice bars, grocery stores, and commercial juice manufacturers previously manufactured juice was the good old fashioned centrifugal way, which really didn’t do the consumer much of any good:  whole products would be tossed into the mouth of the centrifugal juicer which spun at a speed of 3000+ revolutions per minute and seconds later the colorful liquid would come out the spout, into the glass, and down the hatch, so to speak.  Now, though, much research has shown that the fragile juice cells are torn and irreversibly disturbed with this process, creating juice which settles, has a fairly high solids content, and shortened shelf life.

Juicing citrus had its own issues as well: the puncture and pulverize method produced a  high yield but low quality product.  Pieces of the peel along with unwanted oils and contaminants infiltrated the juice, souring the taste and often necessitated processing like pasteurization, dehydration and sterilization.  These types of processing did not discriminate between good and bad, beneficial enzymes and bacteria alike were destroyed.  Local cold pressed juice bars now offer raw, un-processed juices that retain up to 5 times the mineral content of centrifugal juice, and the process of making them is beautifully simple:  pulp and press.

Now making cold pressed juice is easier than ever. Fully automatic citrus juicers like the Zummo series Z-06 / Z-14 and Z-40 all produce cold-pressed citrus juice that is not commingled with the peel oils or other contaminants.  These citrus juices are great on their own or can be mixed with other vegetables and fruit juiced from cold presses such as the Freshly Squeezed series of cold presses like the FS-12, FS-20, FS-30 and FS-45.  Many juice bars are looking to incorporate other specialty juices like sugarcane, delicious and nutrient rich on its own, and great as a mixer or to sweeten up a green juice or a shot of wheatgrass.  With a counter top hydraulic cold press like the Zumonat C-40, customers can create their own concoctions for juice by the glass and enjoy watching their cold-pressed creation made before their eyes.

Cold pressing has also made artisan nut milks easier.  Where before, small batches were blended and hand-squeezed through a cheesecloth, now every last drop can be harvested through 14 tons of pressure in an FS-30, for example.  Soak the almonds in water overnight, then drain and rinse and add a ratio of 2:1 purified water.  Ladle the almonds and water together into the shredder and grind it up with the finest blade.  The mixture falls into the press bag and is ready to be pressed.  Add something extra like a stick of vanilla, stevia, and a pinch of salt and press.

Cold presses reduce the pain and increase the gain of hard-to-juice ingredients like nuts, kale, ginger and beets.  Vern Richards, owner of Juice Nation said this about his cold press: "This machine accomplishes everything that I need it to. Nuts, vegatables, leafy greens, etc. This unit has helped us to reach our goals of opening a 2nd location and reaching a higher level. 1 step and easy to use."  He uses an FS-30 from Freshly Squeezed.

It is often said the best solution is the simplest one.  Local juice bars that cold press every morning understand this, and so do those who enjoy their juice.  Juicing season is here, so get out there and enjoy it, or if looking to get into juicing yourself, visit http://www.drinkfreshlysqueezed.com/
