Votion team members discuss what they enjoyed about participating in Breast Cancer Awareness Month and the important of raising awareness for the disease
BEAVERTON, Ore. - Oct. 30, 2017 - PRLog -- Votion spent October honoring those affected by breast cancer by participating in Breast Cancer Awareness Month efforts. In the United States, one in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime, according to the National Breast Cancer Foundation. Furthermore, it is estimated that each year over 252,710 women in the United States will be diagnosed and more than 40,500 will pass away from this cancer. Votion's employees decided to take a stand for those affected by breast cancer by wearing pink each Wednesday and sporting pink breast cancer ribbon pins, which were made by Votion's Administrators Rachel and Sonja. "A few of the individuals in our office have had run-ins with breast cancer in the family," said Cristian, Votion Manager. "To show that we care enough to support breast cancer awareness month I think speaks to them that many people care about this issue. It might make them feel more at ease knowing how ubiquitous the knowledge of this effort to find a cure is." Cristian said he enjoyed the pink Wednesdays. "I actually just liked seeing our reps come into the office dressed in pink threads every Wednesday to show their support," he said. "It felt kind of unifying and to be honest it almost became even a competition to see who could wear it best."

Why Votion Cares About Breast Cancer Awareness

Wearing the ribbon each day meant something extra special to Votion team member George. "My mother had breast cancer in her right breast," he said. "She found out she had breast cancer two years ago, and it was at the very beginning stage. She needs a lot of medicine, like four to five different medications. One medication just controls the cancer and the side effect is that she cannot sleep during the night, so she needs another medication to help her sleep through the night." George loved that he could show support for his mom, who lives in China, while at work since it's hard to be so far away from her while she is struggling. "I think it's a responsibility for us to raise awareness," George said. Cristian is interested in finding ways for Votion to continue spreading awareness, not just during October. "There are organizations that need support for breast cancer awareness all months of the year," he said. "We could take up a partnership or at least make humanitarian or philanthropic efforts to support these organizations throughout the year."
