Celebrities, Athletes and savvy tastemakers take over PINZ Entertainment Center during Sickle Cell Disease Awareness Month
STUDIO CITY, Calif. - Sept. 14, 2018 - PRLog -- September is National Sickle Cell Disease Awareness Month and marks the 15th year that celebrated actress/humanitarian KiKi Shepard & The K.I.S Foundation will host its annual Celebrity Bowling Challenge to 'raise awareness of Sickle Cell Disease' and support the universal need to get tested now.

Hosted by Actor Obba Babatunde', the annual bowling tournament takes place on Saturday September 29, 2018 at PINZ Entertainment Center located at 12655 Ventura Blvd, Studio City, CA, 91604.  Doors open at 6:30 p.m. with celebrity bowlers, sponsors and supporters walking the Red Carpet and playing a 2-game bowling tournament at 8pm. There will be on-site bone marrow registration, opportunity drawings, awards, food and a variety of event goodies.

Funds raised from the event help to support many of the K.I.S. Foundation's program such as The Crisis Care Package Program. It is a Response-Aid Kit and preventative resource designed to help assist Sickle Cell disease patients before, during, and after a Sickle Cell Crisis. This past Summer, The K.I.S. Foundation, Inc., The County of Los Angeles and Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas, in partnership with the Sickle Cell Disease Foundation of California came together for the Inaugural "Crisis Care Package" Backpack Giveaway at Camp Crescent Moon.

Over 120 activity backpacks were distributed to SCD camp attendees and other SCD patients who were unable to attend due to hospitalization, illness, and other conflicts. Each backpack contained numerous items to benefit youth living with Sickle Cell. In addition to the backpack distribution, all attendees were educated on the issues and care needed for these young patients during a Sickle Cell Crisis.

One of The K.I.S. Foundation's goals is to encourage the efforts of the California state legislature to pass a law which places SCD patients into the same category as Cancer patients in terms of regulation of opioid pain medication. The medication is vitally necessary for all SCD patients during a Sickle Cell Disease crisis upon entering hospital emergency rooms for immediate care.  Delays in administering these specific drugs can keep the patient in pain significantly longer than necessary and can cause death.

Also continues to support and advocate the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approval of Endari® (L-glutamine oral powder) for patients age five years and older with Sickle Cell Disease to reduce severe complications associated with the blood disorder. This represents the first-ever treatment approved for children and the first new treatment for Sickle Cell Disease in almost 20 years.

"We at The K.I.S. Foundation, Inc., are simply ecstatic to celebrate our 15th year of this successful and entertaining fundraiser but more importantly to bring awareness of Sickle Cell Disease to the masses. Our returning sponsors and celebrity supporters continue to amaze us with their encouragement to help us continue the fight!", says K.I.S. Founder KiKi Shepard
