Regal Entertainment Group (NYSE: RGC), a leading motion picture exhibitor owning and operating the largest theatre circuit in the United States, is celebrating the grand opening for Stonefield Stadium 14 & IMAX. Activities include preview events with $2 movies to benefit local charities. The official grand opening will be November 9 with first-run features including James Bond Skyfall. Moviegoers will also enjoy free popcorn and soft drinks with each paid admission Friday, November 9 through Wednesday, November 14.
“For years, Regal has searched for the right opportunity to open a new entertainment destination in Charlottesville with all of the latest amenities. Stonefield Stadium 14 & IMAX is certainly going to impress moviegoers and attract patrons from a large region,” stated Russ Nunley, Regal Entertainment Group Vice President of Marketing and Communications. “Regal Entertainment Group is also announcing that Downtown Mall 6 is going to feature Cinema Art films. Combined with Stonefield’s 14 screens showcasing the most popular movies, Charlottesville moviegoers will now enjoy an even greater selection of movie options than ever before.”
The new theatre is modern in every way, equipped with RealD® 3D and the IMAX Experience. IMAX digital projection systems showcase Hollywood blockbusters that have been digitally re-mastered into the unique image and sound quality of The IMAX Experience. Films are projected on a specially-designed screen that is slightly curved and moved forward to further immerse the audience. Images of exceptional quality, combined with IMAX's proprietary digital surround sound system and patented theatre geometry create “The IMAX Experience,” making audiences feel as if they are IN the movie.
Another cutting-edge technology available exclusively at Regal Entertainment Group theatres is Sony’s Entertainment Access System to assist moviegoers who are deaf, hard of hearing, blind or low vision. The system includes specially designed lightweight eyewear for guests who are deaf or hard of hearing to privately view closed captioned text directly in their line of sight for both 2D and 3D movies. This assistive technology also includes a wireless receiver that provides access to descriptive audio tracks via a pair of headsets for guests who are blind or have low vision. The access glasses and audio headsets allow moviegoers to individually enjoy the cinema experience in a relaxed, natural way without the inconvenience of separate screening times or special seating.
Guests desiring such accommodations need only request the Sony Entertainment Access System at the Guest Services counter or from any manager. To select films offering this service, online showtimes will note: “Accessibility Devices Available.”
Everyone is invited to enjoy this new entertainment destination on Monday, November 5; Tuesday, November 6; and Thursday, November 8 while helping local charities. These Preview Events feature $2 movies, $2 popcorn and $2 soft drinks with proceeds benefiting Virginia Film Festival, Got Your 6 – Military Support, and Madison House Student Volunteers at UVA.
