MTM LinguaSoft funds project to translate translation of water pump repair manual into African languages thus helping to ensure access to clean water to African villages.
PRLog - Oct. 7, 2013 - PHILADELPHIA -- Philadelphia language services company MTM LinguaSoft marked its tenth year in business by funding a project with the international humanitarian group Translators Without Borders. The gift will fund the translation of operating manuals for village water pumps in Zimbabwe into local languages.
Clients, linguists and local business partners joined the MTM LinguaSoft staff at a reception on Thursday, October 3, to celebrate the first 10 years of the business and to recognize the work translators and interpreters do to bring the world closer together and sustain the impact of global aid.
Access to clean water is a major issue all over the world. In Africa, humanitarian groups have installed thousands of pumps, but when a pump breaks down, there is often no local person who knows how to fix it. The recycling and sustainability group iFixit.org developed simple, clear manuals for the three most common water pumps, and MTM LinguaSoft’s donation will support the translation of these manuals into local African languages.
The translation work is being coordinated by Translators Without Borders. Distributing the manuals in key local languages such as Shona, Ndebele and Portuguese will keep the pumps working long after the installers are gone, because local people will have the knowledge to fix the pumps themselves.

Translators without Borders supports humanitarian workers around the world by providing free translations of critical communications. Through a sophisticated digital platform, a community of professional, vetted translators volunteer their time to translate more than two million words per year for NGOs such as Médecins sans Frontières (Doctors without Borders), Médecins du Monde, Action Against Hunger, Oxfam US and Handicap International.
