Blue Sage Named SBIC and Seller of the Year

Blue Sage Capital, an Austin, Texas-based private investment firm, is pleased to announce that it is the recipient of two prestigious awards.

The U.S. Small Business Administration named Blue Sage Capital the 2013 Small Business Investment Company (SBIC) of the Year. Blue Sage, since its inception in 2003, has proven to be a leading participant in the SBIC program. In 2012, Blue Sage had two successful exits for its portfolio companies, Ashbrook Simon-Hartley and R360 Environmental Solutions. Blue Sage also closed its oversubscribed second fund at $150 million, 50% above its target amount.

Co-Founder and Managing Member Peter Huff said, "We are honored to have been chosen as SBIC of the Year. We pride ourselves on the impact we have made on the small business community through both job growth and economic growth."

Through Blue Sage’s first fund, the firm invested over $115 million in thirteen small businesses. Of the six businesses Blue Sage has realized to date, the firm worked with its management teams to increase revenues by 30%, increase EBITDA by 55% and grow the number of employees by 46%, creating nearly 400 new jobs.

Additionally, Mergers & Acquisitions named Blue Sage its Seller of the Year for its investment in R360 Environmental Solutions. Blue Sage, during its six year hold, had a return of over 63 times the capital it originally invested in R360’s predecessor company. R360 was purchased by Waste Connections (NYSE: WCN) for over $1.3 billion last year.
