Jacobs Awarded Contract by ASHTA Chemicals Inc.

Jacobs Engineering Group Inc. (NYSE:JEC) announced today that it was awarded a contract to support ASHTA Chemicals Inc. in making significant upgrades to its chlorine and potassium-based chemicals plant located in Ashtabula, Ohio.

Company officials did not disclose the contract value, but noted that ASHTA is making the $60 million investment to improve operational efficiency and reduce the plant’s energy consumption and environmental impact.

Under the terms of the contract, Jacobs is providing engineering, procurement and construction management services for the project, which is expected to take between 24 and 30 months to complete.

In making the announcement, Jacobs Group Vice President Chris Nagel stated, “We are very pleased to leverage our global EPCM capability and more than 65 years of experience working with clients in the chemicals industry to support ASHTA at its Ashtabula plant. We are delighted to have the opportunity to contribute to this project, which serves to retain and add jobs in Ohio while improving the energy efficiency and productivity of ASHTA’s facility.”

The investment program includes replacing the plant’s current mercury cell processing technology with membrane cell technology, an environmentally sustainable alternative that is expected to reduce power consumption by approximately 20 percent, increase component lifetimes, and improve production efficiency and worker safety.

Jacobs is one of the world's largest and most diverse providers of technical professional and construction services.
