Four-Time Stroke Survivor Walks from Portland Ore. to Portland Maine, Raising Money for Stroke Survivors
PRLog - Jul. 7, 2014 - CASPER, Wyo. -- Before completing his 28th state, 63-year-old Mycle Brandy continues his 3,780-mile walk across America and plans to visit Wyoming Medical Center, in Casper, on Tuesday, July 8th. Brandy,  a four-time stroke survivor, strives to inspire stroke survivors to keep up with their recovery exercise, along with how to prevent another stroke.” Every year, nearly 800,000 people have a stroke. That is one every 40 seconds.” said Brandy. “But in most cases, it’s preventable by lifestyle changes such as exercise and proper nutrition.” The leading causes of stroke are high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes and smoking.

On Tuesday, July 8th, Brandy will visit the Elkhorn Valley Rehabilitation Hospital, located at 5715 E 2nd Street, from 1:30 to 3:00 pm and then tour the Wyoming Medical Center, located at 1233 E 2nd Street, from 3:00 to 5:00 pm. The Elkhorn Rehab Hospital is designed solely for the provision of specialized rehabilitative care, is the only freestanding acute rehabilitation hospital in the state of Wyoming, providing both inpatient and outpatient services. Wyoming Medical Center is among 20 hospitals Brandy will visit during his journey to help inspire stroke survivors. “In moments of pain and frustration, it’s tempting to give up. But recovery is possible,” said Brandy. He started walking from Portland, Oregon on April 15th of this year, and plans to finish his cross-country trek in Portland, Maine  by mid-December.

This is Mycle’s fourth walk across the U.S. to date.  He has previously trekked from Newport Beach, California to Washington, D.C. in 2010, from San Diego, California to Seattle, Washington in 2011, and from Madawaska, Maine to Miami, Florida in 2012.. Brandy plans to complete his journey at the Maine Medical Center in downtown Portland, Maine on December 13, 2014.

This is Mycle’s longest walk attempted to date; he hopes to raise $1 million in donations along the way. He will walk through Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Nebraska, Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, Vermont, New Hampshire & Maine.
