New York Times Magazine Rolls out More Changes

The New York Times announced today that Tamar Adler would be joining the magazine as a contributing writer. Ms. Adler will write a food column alternating with current magazine food writers Mark Bittman and Sam Sifton. Her first column, an essay on eating alone, will be featured in this weekend’s magazine.

Ms. Adler’s hire comes as the magazine gears up for a major redesign in early 2015. In addition to recently naming Emily Bazelon and Maureen Dowd as staff writers, editor Jake Silverstein has made other notable changes. This weekend’s issue debuts a new regular opening essay entitled First that will illuminate various aspects of contemporary life. This inaugural First column by Mark Leibovich offers a revealing interview with former Governor Mitt Romney.

Ms. Adler, who has worked in a number of restaurants, including Chez Panisse, is the author of An Everlasting Meal: Cooking With Economy and Grace. She is a contributor to Vogue. Her column for The New York Times Magazine will appear in rotation with Mr. Bittman’s and Mr. Sifton’s.
