Focus on the Environment and Sustainable Living

HONG KONG, Oct 29, 2014 - (ACN Newswire) - The HKTDC Hong Kong International Building and Hardware Fair and Eco Expo Asia opened their doors today at the AsiaWorld-Expo. A wide range of green tech products, building materials and new innovations are on display. The fairs run concurrently from 29 October to 1 November with a total of over 480 exhibitors from 22 countries and regions taking part. The fairs will be open to public on 1 November, giving visitors a chance to learn more about new building and environmental initiatives.

Eco Friendly

Eco Expo Asia, jointly organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) and Messe Frankfurt (HK) Ltd, is co-organised by the Environment Bureau of the Hong Kong SAR Government. Eco Expo Asia is comprised of four themed days: "Global Green Initiatives", "Waste Management & Recycling", "Green Building, Energy Efficiency & Energy" and "Green Living" with a variety of special events and conferences related to the theme of each day. This concept is designed to tie in with the global trend towards recycling, energy conservation and low carbon living. The fair includes the Eco Asia Conference (29-31 October) with over 30 expert speakers from around the world, including Australia, Chinese mainland, Malaysia, Switzerland and the United States.

Green Wheels

Three types of environmentally friendly vehicles are presented during the Expo. German carmaker BMW is showcasing its BMW i3 electric car which promises sheer driving pleasure with zero emissions. The innovative design features lightweight carbon fibre reinforced plastic and an advanced electric drive system. An electric bus, produced by Green Dynamic Electric Vehicle Ltd in collaboration with the Hong Kong Productivity Council using home-grown technologies, is also showcased, as is the Hino 300 Hybrid Series truck by Crown Motors Ltd.

Eco Innovation

Among the creative solutions for green living at the fair is the Household Foodwaste Processing System which can be installed under a sink and decomposes food and discharges food waste through the sewage system. Also on show is Enevo ONe, which is a wireless sensor to detect capacity levels of waste containers and generate smart collection plans automatically.

Building Fair Expansion

This year, the Hong Kong International Building and Hardware Fair has extended to cover four days (29 October-1 November). The fair includes new exhibitors from Portugal and Turkey while 14 exhibitors from Huzhou in the Chinese mainland province of Zhejiang, are participating in the Huzhou Pavilion to showcase the latest green building materials and decorations.

Visitors can check out new innovations such as the Dyson Airblade Tap, which enables users to wash and dry hands over a sink in just 12 seconds, and a revolutionary new design of clear roofing tiles (LRT Tiles) which allow both light and shade to create comfortable environments in covered outdoor areas such as patios and gazebos.

BIM Day

Today is designated as BIM Day at the Building and Hardware Fair with a focus on all aspects of Building Information Modelling, or BIM for short. Co-organised by the Construction Industry Council, BIM Day comprises a full-day programme, including an Exhibitors' Forum for BIM-related exhibitors and a high-profile HKIBIM-CIC Conference 2014 organised by the Hong Kong Institute of Building Information Modelling.

BIM is a global trend in the building and construction industry. It is not just a three dimensional drawing tool but a new tool to holistically manage information relating to construction projects from planning stage, to design, construction and operational stages. BIM facilitates construction professionals to work together and communicate through a single platform. A variety of BIM-related products and technologies are on display during the fair.

Beyond BIM

In addition to BIM Day, the Building and Hardware Fair features a wide range of zones covering different key aspects of the trade, namely, Building Technology; Building Performance and BIM; Ceiling and Curtain Wall; and, a Facility Management, Testing and Trade Service zone.

Public Day

Eco Expo Asia and the Building and Hardware Fair will open to the general public on the last day of the event. During the Public Day on 1 November, visitors will be able to shop at the "Green Mart" and "Ideal Home Mart", which are dedicated to eco-friendly products and home improvement and renovation products. At the Building and Hardware Fair, there are also two interior design forums on the topics of "Green-Living - Modern Home" and "Micro-Living: Small Space, Big Idea". At Eco Expo Asia, visitors will be able to sign up to test drive the new BMW i3 electric car.
